Reaching Ahmedabad By Bus

Ahmedabad has a wide network of roads connect which the city to all major places within Gujarat state as well to other neighboring states. Gujarat State transport buses ply regularly to Ahmedabad from all nearby towns and cities. Through the Golden Quadrilateral Project Ahmedabad is connected to all major metros of India. Ahmedabad is also connected to Vadodara through National Expressway 1, a 94 km (58 miles) long highway with only two exits, which is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project. Ahmedabad is directly connected by highways to Bhavnagar, Nadiad, Mehsana, Surendranagar, Bhuj, Rajkot and Gandhinagar.
The closest metro is Mumbai. Every day deluxe bus services are available from Mumbai (fare about Rs 600) and also from all major cities in Gujarat.
There are several bus stands spread across the city which will take you to different parts of the city. The major station at Ahmedabad is Gitamandir Station. You can take inter state transport buses from here. Gujarat State Transport Corporation maintains and runs buses in Ahmedabad. Private buses/coaches can also be hired. For using these buses you must either know some Gujarati or ask local people to help you read numbers on the State Transport Buses as they are written in local language. Since buses are used by all, they remain overcrowded most of the times. Take care of your belongings while travelling.
